Although acting is a collaborative event, voice-acting is one of the more lonely elements of it as many performers are in a recording studio by themselves and not with their co-stars. This means that there are times when the actors that share a scene together never actually met.
Ally Maki (Giggle McDimples, Toy Story 4) almost had this happen to her when she came extremely close to not meeting Woody, aka Tom Hanks. However, when she did manage to meet the famous actor, it wasn’t under the best circumstances. Once they had both finished recording their scenes for Toy Stort 4, they rolled onto the press conferences and media promotion that always happens with a big project such as this. But Maki didn’t expect to meet him, unaware that their schedules matched.
She says, “I had a really cool run in with Hanks. We were doing press and interviews on the same day, and I had no idea. I showed up with like no makeup on, messy bun, like a teddy bear jacket. And, of course, that day I had a giant pimple on my face, and I walk in and think I’m going to hair and makeup, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, come in, come in. Tom is just coming down.’ And I’m like, ‘Tom? I don’t remember a Tom in all of my time here.’ And they’re like, ‘Hanks!’ And I was like, ‘…Right. Yeah, I would meet Hanks like this.’ And, of course, he’s just the best. We like chatted for 10 minutes. He’s everything you want him to be and more. He exceeds your expectations.”
It’s good to know that she got to meet one of her heroes and he didn’t disappoint.
