Singer-songwriter Lisa Mishra, on Tuesday, released her first song “Aadat” of her debut solo album “Sorry, I’m Late”. The Bombay-based singer teased about her song and album earlier in the month via an Instagram post.

The artiste spent most of 2023 collaborating on several projects, including the short romantic song “Aa Mil” with Zaeden. She added to it with a feature on Prateek Kuhad’s single “Mere Sang”. During her Instagram post earlier this month, she spoke about how she is ready to take a step forward in a more “Lisa Mishra-centric” direction.

Celebrating the release of her new song, Lisa uploaded a snippet of her music video and captioned it as: “the first music video from my upcoming album. this is my baby. we spent the last year working on these songs, each one a distinct story from a major event in my life. #aadat is about messy, ugly, toxic love that turns you into the villain in your own story.”

At the time of writing this article, the Instagram post got near about 3,000 likes and around 60 comments.

On YouTube, the video description reads: “‘Aadat’ is the first single from my forthcoming album, ‘Sorry, I’m Late.’ This song is about being unable to quit someone from your past. It’s a very relatable and not necessarily pretty experience, and sometimes you end up being the villain in your toxic relationship.

Most of my album was produced by Riz and Soham who lent their talents to co-produce this track, as well. I hope people feel the darkness and melancholy in the composition. Bhumika and I did our best to blend East and West in our vocal deliveries, which is a theme of my entire project where I showcase both sides of my musical upbringing between Mumbai and Chicago.”

At the time of writing this article, the song had 255,661 views along with around 10 thousand comments.

Lisa, born in Odisha, first burst onto the scene thanks to her singing videos on YouTube, where she would upload covers of her favourite songs. Soon, she was recognised and was offered to lend her services on Chance the Rapper’s track “All We Got” from his Grammy-winning album Coloring Book.

Not long after, she made her Bollywood debut and shot to fame with the reprise version of “Tareefan” from the movie Veere Di Wedding.

When asked about what her listeners can expect from her debut album, Lisa, in an interview with Rollingstone India, said, “people can expect a lot of international production influences, especially the likes of SZA and Kehlani. I also have familiar touch points for fans of my earlier guitar-led songs. But it is a cohesive storytelling album about the female emotional experience which covers love, loneliness, loss, anger, and redemption.”

She further added, “[the album] features largely up-and-coming artists, so it is decidedly focused on my artistry and to familiarize the audience with my new sound.”
