The BBC will be setting ‘Towards Zero’ as its next adaptation of Agatha Christie’s work, thus keeping its tradition alive of keeping the author’s work alive. This is the continuation of 2023’s limited series Murder Is Easy. The BBC has enlisted Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited to reinterpret the author’s 1944 novel.

“Towards Zero unfolds around the murder of an elderly widow at a clifftop seaside house, linking a failed suicide attempt, a schoolgirl wrongfully accused of theft, and the romantic life of a famous tennis player,” Deadline reported.

The original book will be adapted by Rachel Bennette, the writer behind the BAFTA-nominated Zadie Smith adaptation NW. Rachel has also written on World on Fire and Ripper Street.

Production for “Towards Zero” is slated for the summer. The collaboration for the series involves both BritBox International and Fifth Season, with the latter overseeing international distribution.

For Agatha Christie Limited, James Prichard will be the executive producer. Damien Timmer and Sheena Bucktowonsing will be executive producing for Mammoth Screen; Rachel Bennette, Danielle Scott-Haughton for the BBC; and Reemah Sakaan, Stephen Nye, and Robert Schildhouse for BritBox International.

The BBC was satisfied with Murder Is Easy’s performance over the festive period. It starred David Jonsson, and averaged 7M viewers. This put it on the same level as other Christie adaptations, including Ordeal By Innocence, The ABC Murders, and The Pale Horse.

Murder Is Easy will premiere on BritBox International in the US, Canada, and South Africa on March 1.
