Indian filmmaker and actor Farhan Akhtar has inked a new representation deal with Crimson Media and The SB Initiative, exclusively revealed to sources.
Akhtar, renowned for co-founding Excel Entertainment, has left an indelible mark in Bollywood through his diverse roles as a writer, director, producer, and actor. He gained prominence for directing and producing the 2006 blockbuster “Don,” starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, followed by its successful sequel, “Don 2,” in 2011. Currently, he is in pre-production for “Don 3: The Final Chapter,” featuring Ranveer Singh. In 2019, Akhtar collaborated once again with Chopra for the biographical drama “The Sky is Pink,” premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Akhtar’s acting career soared with his debut in the 2008 musical drama “Rock On!,” where he showcased his talents on-screen and as a singer. He further demonstrated his versatility in the 2011 road trip drama “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,” which he wrote and produced under the direction of his sister, Zoya Akhtar. The film emerged as one of Bollywood’s highest-grossing hits of the year.
Notably, Akhtar portrayed Indian sprinter Milkha Singh in the 2013 biopic “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,” a role that earned him the Best Actor accolade at the Filmfare Awards. He also starred in Zoya Akhtar’s ensemble family comedy-drama “Dil Dhadakne Do,” alongside Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, and Anushka Sharma.
Recently, Akhtar featured in Prime Video’s boxing drama “Toofan” and made a significant cameo appearance in Disney+’s Marvel series “Ms. Marvel.”
Excel Entertainment, Akhtar’s Mumbai-based production banner, struck a noteworthy multi-year series deal with Netflix in 2021, leading to successful shows such as “Eternally Confused and Eager for Love” and “Dabba Cartel.” Additionally, the third season of their Prime Video series “Mirzapur” became the platform’s most-watched original in India, with a fourth season already confirmed.
Crimson Media and The SB Initiative have been actively expanding their roster of Indian talents, recently signing on stars like Sayani Gupta and Rajshri Deshpande. Representing Akhtar globally in all capacities will be Matt Kniaz of Crimson Media and Suchir Batra of The SB Initiative.
