Seoul-based Finecut has acquired the international sales rights for “A Girl With Closed Eyes,” a gripping thriller-drama set to make its mark at the Toronto market screening and world premiere in Busan.

The film, a debut feature from director Chun Sun-young, centers on a murder suspect and a detective who are drawn back into each other’s lives through the mysterious killing of a bestselling author. Chun, whose short film Good Night was previously showcased at Cannes Critics’ Week, brings a tense narrative to the screen with this latest project.

Leading the cast is Kim Min-ha, widely recognized for her role as Sun-ja in Apple TV+’s Pachinko. “A Girl With Closed Eyes,” she portrays a suspect accused of murdering a famous writer, claiming that he had kidnapped her back in 2002. Opposite her is Moon Choi, known for his performances in Deliver Us From Evil and Okja, who takes on the role of the investigating detective.

The film is backed by Solaire Partners LLC, a venture capital firm with a history of supporting box office hits such as “Parasite,” “Extreme Job,” and “12:12: The Day.”

In addition to “A Girl With Closed Eyes,” Finecut’s lineup at Toronto includes By The Stream from Hong Sang-soo, which recently premiered in competition at Locarno, earning Kim Min-hee the Best Performance Award. By The Stream is set to be featured in Toronto’s Centrepiece section.

Finecut is also showcasing Noise, which will be presented at a market screening under Toronto’s Industry Select. The film will have its world premiere in the Panorama competition section at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.

Rounding out Finecut’s slate is Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning, an animated adaptation of a bestselling Korean novel that premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The story follows a doctor-turned-priest tasked with protecting a naïve yet powerful child from his corrupt master.
