Donald Glover, the multi-talented artist behind the Childish Gambino moniker, has cancelled the remaining dates of his “New World” tour in North America and Europe, citing health issues that require surgery and time to recover.
The announcement follows a previous postponement of several North American tour dates, which Glover had previously hinted could be part of his final run as Childish Gambino, signaling his retirement of the stage name. The artist has not disclosed specifics regarding the medical condition but confirmed that he had been evaluated after a recent show.
Glover explained the situation in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter): “After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent. After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the U.S. tour in the time asked. As of now, I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.”
He further expressed regret about the tour’s cancellation, said, “My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously. With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the U.K. and European dates. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support.”
While the news affects scheduled performances in North America and Europe, Glover did not clarify whether his planned shows in New Zealand and Australia, set for early 2025, would be impacted.
The cancelled “New World” tour was part of Glover’s final project under the Childish Gambino persona, featuring his latest album Bando Stone and the New World. The project also includes a forthcoming film of the same name and a re-release of his 2020 album 3.15.2020, which has been retitled as Atavista.
