Lifetime is set to kick off 2025 with two intense true-crime dramas in its popular ‘Ripped from the Headlines’ series, according to Deadline exclusive report. The network has greenlit Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story, starring Dascha Polanco, and Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story, featuring Paige Hurd, both based on harrowing true events.

‘Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story’ – A Family’s Nightmare
Premiering on 11 January, Terror Comes Knocking recounts the terrifying experience of Marcela Borges, portrayed by Orange is the New Black’s Dascha Polanco. In this suspenseful thriller, Borges, her husband, and young son find their peaceful Florida home turned into a nightmare as masked intruders demand an impossible ransom of $200,000. With no access to such funds, Marcela must navigate life-or-death choices to protect her family. Executive produced by Jeff Vanderwal and directed by Felipe Rodriguez, Terror Comes Knocking is produced by Cineflix Productions, with a screenplay by Crystal Verge.

‘Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story’ – A Tale of Survival and Resilience
Following on 18 January, Girl in the Garage is another chilling true-crime adaptation, led by Power Book II: Ghost star Paige Hurd. This film tells the story of Laura Cowan, who, after her husband’s arrest, accepts help from a family friend, only to be subjected to a horrifying ordeal. Musa, played by Stephen Bishop, abuses Cowan and her children, even imprisoning them in his garage. Despite the harrowing conditions, Cowan’s resilience shines through as she documents her experience and bravely signals for help. Produced by Poke Prod, Girl in the Garage is directed by Manu Boyer, with a screenplay by Avery O. Williams. Co-producer Laura Cowan herself contributed to bringing her story to the screen.

These two premieres spotlight the strength and resilience of their real-life subjects, adding a new layer of authenticity to Lifetime’s true-crime lineup.
