Rising star Emma D’Arcy, best known for their breakout performance in HBO’s House of the Dragon, is set to join Tom Cruise in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s highly anticipated untitled feature film, currently in production at Pinewood Studios in the UK.

The casting was confirmed by D’Arcy in an exclusive statement to Deadline, marking an exciting new chapter in their already celebrated career. “I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom,” they told Deadline. “They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.”

First announced by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment in December, the film is slated for a worldwide premiere on October 2, 2026. According to early plot details, the story follows “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.

Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, The Revenant) is once again collaborating with his Birdman co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone, with Sabina Bierman also contributing to the screenplay. Iñárritu previously earned Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay Oscars for Birdman in 2016, followed by a second Best Director win in 2017 for The Revenant.

Joining Cruise and D’Arcy in the ensemble cast are some of the most acclaimed names in contemporary cinema: Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), John Goodman (Argo, The Big Lebowski), Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), and Michael Stuhlbarg (The Shape of Water). The project has been generating buzz since Deadline first revealed it was in development, with major casting updates continuing to build excitement.

This marks D’Arcy’s return to feature films after their role in Eva Husson’s 2021 drama Mothering Sunday, where they starred alongside Colin Firth, Olivia Colman, Odessa Young, and Josh O’Connor.

Meanwhile, Cruise will head to the Cannes Film Festival for the world premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, screening Out of Competition on May 14. The eighth installment of the blockbuster franchise will hit U.S. theatres over the Memorial Day weekend on May 23.

With an elite cast, a visionary director, and a global spotlight already forming around the film, Iñárritu’s untitled epic is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious cinematic events of 2026.
