Disney+ has set 24th March as the premiere date for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, marking two decades since the hit Disney Channel series first introduced audiences to Miley Stewart’s secret pop-star life.

The special will feature previously unseen footage from the original show and reconstructed versions of some of its iconic sets. Cooper — ranked No. 5 on Forbes’ 2025 Top Creators list — will interview Miley Cyrus as part of the program, which is being co-produced by her Unwell Production company alongside HopeTown Entertainment, run by Cyrus’ mother Tish Cyrus.

Cyrus reflected on the role that launched her career, saying “Hannah Montana” will “always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection.”

The original series aired on Disney Channel from 2006 to 2011 and expanded into a major franchise that included soundtrack albums, a theatrical film, a concert tour and a concert movie. It received four Emmy nominations for outstanding children’s program and has frequently been ranked among the network’s most beloved shows. The role also propelled Cyrus into global fame, even as her later music releases — including “Can’t Be Tamed” and “We Can’t Stop” — signaled a shift away from her Disney image. She later described the experience as giving her an “identity crisis,” saying in a 2021 interview she felt it was “drilled into my head” that “without being Hannah Montana, no one cares about you.”

Despite the complicated relationship with her early fame, Cyrus has embraced the character in recent years. After being named a Disney Legend in 2024, she said she was “forever grateful” to have played Hannah Montana and dedicated the honor to “Hannah Montana and all of her fans.”

The anniversary special follows months of fan speculation, fueled by Cyrus sharing throwback photos from the show’s set and hinting in a past interview that she wanted to “design something really, really special” for the milestone, calling the celebration “exciting.”
