Prime Video has announced that Season Six of the globally popular series The Chosen will premiere on 15 November, 2026, marking a pivotal chapter in the show’s narrative arc.

The new season, consisting of six episodes, will debut with three episodes on launch day, followed by weekly releases through December 6. In a significant shift from previous seasons, the finale will be released as a standalone theatrical event in spring 2027, underscoring the scale and importance of the storyline.

Season Six will be available not only in the United States but also across multiple international markets, including Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. Earlier seasons of the series are already streaming on Prime Video.

The upcoming instalment focuses on the final day of Jesus of Nazareth, portraying the events leading up to the crucifixion through the perspectives of both followers and adversaries. The narrative explores the emotional and political tensions surrounding the moment—seen by different groups as justice, peace, or murder—while centring on Jesus’ resolve as he approaches his fate.

Dallas Jenkins, creator and executive producer of the series and Chairman of 5&2 Studios, emphasised the deeper storytelling ambition behind the season. “Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours,” he said.

“We realized this not only deserved a season of television but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well. We wrote and filmed all of it with this in mind.”

The returning cast includes Jonathan Roumie as Jesus, alongside Shahar Isaac, Paras Patel, Elizabeth Tabish, Noah James, George H. Xanthis, Abe Bueno-Jallad, Vanessa Benavente, Luke Dimyan, Richard Fancy, Paul Ben-Victor, and Andrew James Allen.

Since its debut, The Chosen has emerged as one of the most widely watched faith-based dramas globally, amassing over 300 million viewers. The series offers a character-driven retelling of the life of Jesus, set against the backdrop of Roman-occupied first-century Israel.

The expansion of the franchise is also tied to a broader partnership. In 2025, Amazon MGM Studios signed a multi-project deal with 5&2 Studios, securing streaming rights for earlier seasons as well as new content, including The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls and other spin-offs. The agreement also covers the final two seasons of the series, which will depict the crucifixion in Season Six and the resurrection in Season Seven.

Global distribution for the series is handled by Lionsgate.

With its upcoming season tackling one of the most defining moments in Christian theology, the series is poised to deepen its narrative scope while expanding its reach across both streaming platforms and theatrical audiences.
