Hollywood actress Kaitlyn Dever has been cast as Abby for season 2 of HBO’s hit series ‘The Last of Us,’ Deadline reported. As Abby, Dever will play the series’ most prominent character, joining Pedro Pascal. When it was announced that the second season of the series will be based on 2020 The Last of Us Part II of the famous post-apocalyptic video game, fans immediately shifted their focus on Abby – one of the game’s two playable central characters alongside Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey.
Dever is one of the three major cast additions for the second season. According to the game, Abby is a hardened soldier with a black-and-white perspective of the world. She is out there to avenge the loss of her near ones. As for the game, the character was aced by Laura Bailey.
“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material,” Deadline quoted Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us‘ co-creators, writers, executive producers and directors, as saying.
“Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella, and the rest of our family,” they added.
The storyline emerges 20 years after modern civilization was destroyed. Joel, played by Pascal, a soldier is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie, out of a quarantine zone. What seems like an easy job at first, turns into a journey of lessons, survival, and emotions.
The first season was shot in Calgary, Alberta, and the second season will be shot in Vancouver, and the production is set to start in February.
Dever is famous for her roles in ‘Last Man Standing,’ the Netflix limited series ‘Unbelievable,’ earning her a Critics Choice and Golden Globe nominations, and Dopesick, which got her an Emmy, Critics Choice, and Globe nominations.
