Indian Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with the Indian of the Year 2023 award at the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023. The 58-year-old actor received the award from the esteemed jury in New Delhi. This was his first-ever media appearance since 2019. The superstar had a successful year as he gave three blockbuster movies in 2023 including ‘Pathaan’, ‘Jawan’, and ‘Dunki’. “It’s not about the box office or numbers but the desire to entertain,” said Khan while accepting the award. He referred to the time before the release of ‘Pathaan’ when he had back-to-back setbacks in his film career. He said the time made him ‘nervous and scared’ since he had the fear of not being able to entertain. “I don’t just feel like the Indian of the Year, I feel, I’ve been the Indian of all the years gone by and I will be the Indian for all the years to come. I am actually, ladies and gentlemen, the Indian for all ages,” he said in his accepting speech. The year 2023 was historic for the actor as he made a comeback after four years with ‘Pathaan’ and delivered two more blockbusters—‘Jawan’ and ‘Dunki’—one after one. Khan had over 8 crore footfalls in a single year with Jawan contributing 3.93 crores, Pathaan making 3.20 crores, and Dunki collecting over one crore so far.
