Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhooth Bangla’ Postponed Amid ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Box Office Surge

The release of Bhooth Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar and directed by Priyadarshan, has been pushed by a week in response to the strong box office performance of Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

Producer Ektaa Kapoor confirmed the decision, stating that the move was aimed at ensuring both films receive adequate space in theatres. The horror-comedy will now release on 17 April, with paid previews beginning on 16 April at 9 PM.

Kapoor said the shift followed “extensive discussion” and came after “multiple requests” from distributors and exhibitors across key markets. She emphasised that the decision was made keeping audience experience and industry balance in mind.

“Dhurandhar: The Revenge is currently enjoying an exceptional run at the box office, which is great news for producers at large. Our exhibitors felt that giving it a clear, uninterrupted window would be in the best interest of the industry ecosystem,” Kapoor said.

“By moving Bhooth Bangla ahead by a week, we are ensuring that both films get the theatrical space, marketing focus, and audience attention they truly deserve! We believe this approach benefits everyone — the filmmakers, the exhibitors, and most importantly, the audiences who get to experience each film without compromise. We will always prioritise the comfort of theatre-going audiences, and strive to entertain them in the best way possible with our films,” she added.

Bhooth Bangla marks the much-anticipated reunion between Kumar and Priyadarshan, a duo known for delivering popular comedies such as Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, Garam Masala, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Khatta Meetha. Their last collaboration dates back to 2010, making this project a notable return for fans of the filmmaker-actor partnership.

The film features an ensemble cast including Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, Jisshu Sengupta, and Mithila Palkar.

The two filmmakers are also set to collaborate again on an upcoming thriller titled Haiwaan, which will additionally star Saif Ali Khan.

With the revised release strategy, industry stakeholders are hoping both films can maximise their box office potential without competing directly for audience attention.
