The Sundance Film Festival on Saturday announced the winners of its 2024 Awards Ceremony, held at The Ray Theatre in Park City. As the Festival draws to a close on January 28th, the jury and audience have recognized outstanding talent and storytelling across various categories.

The Grand Jury Prizes were awarded to ‘In The Summers’ (US Dramatic Competition), ‘Porcelain War’ (US Documentary Competition), ‘Sujo (World Cinema Dramatic Competition), and ‘A New Kind of Wilderness’ (World Cinema Documentary Competition). Notable among the accolades is the NEXT Innovator Award, presented by Adobe, awarded to ‘Little Death’.

‘Daughters’ received the esteemed Festival Favorite Award, voted for by audiences from a selection of new feature films showcased at the Festival. Audience Awards were also distributed by Acura to ‘Dìdi’ (US Dramatic Competition) and ‘Daughters’ (US Documentary Competition), and by United Airlines to ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ (World Cinema Dramatic Competition) and ‘Ibelin’ (World Cinema Documentary Competition). Additionally, ‘Kneecap’ clinched the audience award for NEXT, presented by Adobe.

Eugene Hernandez, Director of the Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming talked about the award ceremony: “This is a great moment to appreciate what we’re thankful for: jurors who were committed to engaging with these works and who brought their own projects to the Festival at some point during our history, artists who were generous with their stories and their time, audiences eager to join the conversation, our home state hosting us, and our incredible staff and volunteers that make this event possible.”

“Our Awards Ceremony is a great time to celebrate this endeavor we’re all passionate about: we’re united by these stories and by admiration for the bold and dedicated filmmakers bringing them to our community” added Kim Yutani, Sundance Film Festival Director of Programming.

“These awards are an opportunity to highlight resonant works across the slate that will continue to find their audiences beyond Utah and beyond our online platform–to be entrusted with their first impressions is an honor for all of us at Sundance.”

During the festival, the Short Film Jury Awards were also announced, presented by Argo and WeShort. The Shorts Awards Party celebrated the exceptional talent and creativity showcased in short filmmaking.

Among the 53 shorts selected from an impressive 12,098 submissions, the coveted Short Film Grand Jury Prize was awarded to ‘The Masterpiece,’ directed and written by Alex Lora Cercos.

Esteemed Festival alumni Christina Oh, Danny Pudi, and Charlotte Regan served as this year’s Short Film jurors, marking the Festival’s 40th Edition with their discerning expertise.

Mike Plante, Senior Programmer for Short Films, remarked, “This year’s selection of shorts has been outstanding.

Many of the filmmakers are experiencing Sundance for the first time, and we’re thrilled to bring their works to both audiences and the film industry. The award winners truly encapsulate the diverse and innovative storytelling prevalent in today’s short form.”

The award-winning films were also screened in person and via the online Festival platform from January 27th to 28th.
