Australian actor Milly Alcock has landed the role of Supergirl in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. She is best known for playing the character of the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon.

En route to her selection, she brushed aside CODA actress Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, the latter who voiced Supergirl in such DC animated movies as Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

Alcock is repped by CAA, Shanahan Management, Entertainment 360 and Curtis Brown.

Rumours are rife that there’ll be a new Supergirl in Gunn’s Superman Legacy. However, according to a Deadline report, the new Supergirl will appear in a DC-based project before starring in her solo feature, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

No director has been announced for Supergirl (based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series), the project first announced at DC’s studio press day a year ago.

Talking about the selection, Gunn, in a social media post, said: “Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.”
