Universal Pictures’ new Jurassic World movie, which is a reboot, is set for a July 2, 2025, release, Deadline reported. The newer installment is reportedly in talks with David Leitch to direct the next film, a part of the billion-dollar franchise.
Before Leitch was finalised, the franchise acquired the services of David Keopp to write the script. The movie will revolve around a new Jurassic era without the franchise’s original and added cast – Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill – who helmed the franchise for its 31 years.
The Steven Spielberg-produced dinosaur series has raked in $6 billion worldwide across its six movies. The recent trilogy of Jurassic World movies posted the franchise’s top three best grosses, i.e. the 2015 edition ($1.67M billion worldwide), 2018’s Fallen Kingdom ($1.3 billion) and last year’s Dominion ($1B worldwide).
The only other title opening against Jurassic World will be an untitled Angel Studios movie on July 4 next year.
Spielberg, via Amblin Entertainment, will serve as the executive producer of the film. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are set to produce, alongside David Leitch and Kelly McCormick through 87North. Sara Scott, Executive Vice President of Production Development, and Jacqueline Garell, Creative Executive of Production Development, will supervise the project for the Studio.
Leitch is a lynchpin filmmaker for Universal Pictures. He has helmed their upcoming May 3 summer blast-off, Fall Guy, as well as Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw ($770.3M) and the Focus Features’ Charlize Theron action movie Atomic Blonde ($100M WW).
Leitch marks the most significant directorial addition to the franchise since Steven Spielberg helmed the initial two films adapted from Michael Crichton’s bestselling novel. Crichton collaborated on the original script with Koepp, who returns for this installment.
With the recent success of Jurassic World: Dominion crossing the billion-dollar milestone in global box office revenue.
