Following her breakout directorial debut “Past Lives”, Celine Song will be reuniting with A24 for her second feature film, titled ‘The Materialists’. As per reports, the movie is in talks with an A-list cast.

Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans are in talks to lead the romantic comedy. A24 will be looked after the global release of the film. There are murmurs that the movie will be launched at the European Film Market in Berlin.

“Materialists” is a New York-set rom-com following a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man. The characters that Johnson, Pascal and Evans would be playing have not been disclosed.

Producers on the project include Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler for Killer Films and David Hinojosa of 2AM. Reports suggest that the movie’s production will begin in May.

Song’s debut feature film “Past Lives,” which premiered at 2023 Sundance, starred Greta Lee, Teo Yoo and John Magaro. The feature went on to become one of the most talked about films of the year. The film was listed in numerous “best of” lists and has become a major fixture of awards season.

“Past Lives” earned five Golden Globe nominations and is currently in the running for two Academy Awards (Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay). It also received three BAFTA Film Awards nominations (Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Not in the English Language). The film has so far made more than $20 million at the global box office.
