British Vogue’s final cover under the editorship of Edward Enninful features an awe-inspiring lineup of 40 influential women, including tennis icon Serena Williams and UK supermodel Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Naomi Campbell, and Miley Cyrus.
Enninful is the first black man to lead the fashion magazine. He announced his departure from the role to pursue a newly created position this year. His final shoot as editor-in-chief showcases a diverse array of talent, from actresses like Salma Hayek, Jodie Comer, and Jane Fonda to stars like Anya Taylor-Joy, Rina Sawayama, and Christy Turlington.
The cover also features prominent figures such as Jameela Jamil, Maya Jama, Laverne Cox, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, and Dua Lipa. An Instagram video shared by British Vogue captures the gathering of these women in person for the shoot.
Talking about his final edition and departure from the role, Enninful said, “So here it is: my 76th and final edition of Vogue, six-and-a-half years and 153 cover stars later, including the 40 legendary women who feature on this cover. It’s been an extraordinary ride and an absolute honour.”
“As I step into my new role, as Conde Nast’s global creative and cultural adviser for Vogue, I’m determined to keep championing the incredible array of voices in fashion and media, and ensure we keep the energy explosion of the last few years going,” he added.
The shoot took place in December at a studio in Manhattan, New York, and was photographed by Steven Meisel.
Enninful was awarded an OBE for his contributions to diversity in the fashion industry as part of Queen Elizabeth II’s 2016 birthday honours list. He assumed the role of editor-in-chief at British Vogue in August 2017 and was subsequently promoted to European editorial director of Vogue in December 2020.
