In a major deal announced at the emerging EFM, Amazon Prime Video has secured international rights to the sci-fi thriller ‘Ash,’ featuring Eiza González and Aaron Paul. The film is being produced by Flying Lotus, marking his second venture into filmmaking after ‘Kuso’.
According to a Deadline report, sources indicate that this acquisition is one of the largest at EFM yet, with the deal nearing a substantial $10 million, cementing Amazon Prime Video’s commitment to premium content. Negotiations have been ongoing for some time and were finalized this week.
In ‘Ash,’ González portrays a woman awakening on a distant planet to discover her space station crew brutally murdered. She faces the dilemma of whether to trust the man (Paul) dispatched to rescue her. The cast also includes Iko Uwais, Beulah Koale, and Kate Elliott, with the movie currently in post-production.
Flying Lotus, a Grammy-winning artist with a Sundance directorial debut in ‘Kuso,’ is crafting an original score for the film based on an original screenplay by Jonni Remmler. Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films and Matthew Metcalfe of GFC Films are producing, with Neill Blomkamp and Echo Lake serving as executive producers. The financing is provided by XYZ Films’ production fund, supported by IPR.VC, with domestic sales handled by the same company.
González is known for her roles in ‘Baby Driver’ and ‘Ambulance,’ and is now set to appear in Netflix’s ‘Three-Body Problem’ and Guy Ritchie’s ‘Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare’. Meanwhile, Paul, who recently starred in the Sundance sci-fi film ‘Dual,’ remains iconic for his roles in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Westworld.’
