Richie Mehta, the creator of ‘Delhi Crime,’ is all set to expand his footprint with his upcoming India-centric Prime Video series ‘Poacher,’ potentially transforming it into a global franchise, reported Variety.

Backed by QC Entertainment—the production company which supported groundbreaking projects like Jordan Peele’s acclaimed ‘Get Out’; ‘Us,’ and Spike Lee’s multi-award-winning ‘BlacKkKlansman’—the Amazon original holds promise for global appeal. Adding to the big names with the project, Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt is serving as an executive producer for the project through her Eternal Sunshine Productions.

Recently, the team met in London for the UK premiere, releasing the first two episodes that made their debut at Sundance 2023. ‘Poacher’ delves into the harrowing true story of India’s largest ivory poaching operation, with plans underway for a second season set in the country. However, the series also sheds light on the broader issue of wildlife crime, transcending geographical boundaries.

Talking about the series and its potential to become a global phenomenon, Mehta told Variety, “My short answer to that is, this is obvious. It’s a global phenomenon. And I knew when I was researching this, every single person I was dealing with had ties to different countries. And they were doing wildlife crime operations, multinationally and so that already for me was like, ‘Oh my God, this story is particularly residing in India, but where this can go can be anywhere and everywhere.’”

Alia Bhatt said, “Executive producer is a fancy word, but I’m the mascot of ‘Poacher’ and I don’t mind being for ‘Poacher’ or for any show that has such heart at its storytelling.”

‘Poacher’ will be streaming worldwide from 23rd February on Prime Video.
