Shah Rukh Khan is set to be back as the beloved spy in ‘Pathaan 2’ as Aditya Chopra confirmed the sequel, marking the eighth installment in Chopra’s Spy Universe, according to Pinkvilla report.
King Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer ‘Pathaan’, which was released in January 2023, shattered box office records across the board. It was the highest-grossing film in Hindi cinema history, surpassing even the legendary Bahubali 2. The film concluded with a tantalizing promise of Khan’s character returning with a new team to combat future threats.
According to a Pinkvilla report, a source close to the development said, “This is the twist to the YRF Spy Universe timeline – Pathaan 2 will predate Tiger vs Pathaan and will set up the clash of two cinematic legends on the big screen. Shah Rukh Khan as Pathaan is definitely a character that has resonated with the audiences, and there is a constant on-ground demand from the audience to see more of SRK in the spy avatar. Soon after the release in January 2023, Adi and SRK had decided to spin Pathaan into a standalone franchise too within the Spy Universe and the former started ideating the sequel of this all-time blockbuster”.
Over the past year, Aditya Chopra and his team have crafted the script for ‘Pathaan 2’, envisioning it as the cornerstone of the spy film series. “Pathaan 2 is poised to be the cornerstone of the Spy Universe, laying the groundwork for larger conflicts to come,” the source disclosed.
Discussions are underway between Chopra and Khan to commence filming by December 2024, setting the stage for an epic showdown between Tiger and Pathaan in future installments.
‘Pathaan 2’ joins the ranks of illustrious films within the YRF Spy Universe, including ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘War’, ‘Pathaan’ franchises, and an upcoming Alia Bhatt starrer.
