Iconic radio presenter Ameen Sayani, known for his legendary show “Binaca Geet Mala” has passed away at the age of 91 after suffering a heart attack. His son, Rajil Sayani, confirmed the news on Wednesday, stating that Ameen Sayani experienced a heart attack on Tuesday night. Despite efforts by the hospital staff, he could not be revived.
Ameen Sayani was rushed to the HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, informed Rajil Sayani. The funeral will be held on Thursday in Mumbai, he added.
Known for his memorable introduction, “Namaskar bhaiyon aur behno, main aapka dost Ameen Sayani bol raha hoon,” on Radio Ceylon, he held a special place in the hearts of listeners. His show, “Binaca Geet Mala,” remained a beloved staple for nearly 42 years. Over his illustrious career, Ameen Sayani was associated with over 54,000 radio programs and made notable appearances in classic Hindi films.
Ameen Sayani, born on December 21, 1932, in Mumbai, became a household name across generations, captivating audiences with his melodious voice and engaging style.
He initially started his career as an English-language broadcaster but transitioned to Hindi after India gained independence. Sayani’s immense popularity stemmed from his radio program ‘Geetmala,’ which played a pivotal role in popularizing radio listening in India.
