Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are currently in negotiations for an untitled film by acclaimed director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, featuring Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise, reported Deadline, citing sources. This project would mark Iñárritu’s return to English-language cinema since his 2015 hit ‘The Revenant’.
The film, both produced and directed by Iñárritu, boasts a new script co-written in 2023 alongside Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolas Giacobone, the talented team behind ‘Birdman’. Cruise, who will also serve as a producer, is set to star in his first project following the recent announcement of his strategic partnership with Warner Bros. last month.
Legendary Entertainment is expected to join the production as well. Despite being kept in secrecy, the project is generating immense buzz, with no plot details disclosed except that it’s an original story penned by Iñárritu. The Oscar-winning director has been holding meetings with select actors, with Cruise swiftly jumping at the opportunity once he learned of the project’s development.
Aligned with Cruise’s vision and the strategic goals of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, WB studio chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, the film is envisioned to captivate audiences on a global scale and deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience.
For Iñárritu, this marks his return to major studio filmmaking since ‘The Revenant’ which earned over $500 million worldwide and garnered him a second consecutive Best Director Oscar win. After a brief hiatus, during which he focused on his passion project ‘Bardo’ at Netflix, Iñárritu is back with a project that promises to redefine cinematic storytelling once again.
