The release date of Netflix’s biopic ‘Amar Singh Chamkila,’ starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra has been announced. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film is set to premiere on the streaming platform on 12th April, promising an immersive journey into the life of Punjab’s original rockstar.

Amar Singh Chamkila, revered as Punjab’s iconic music sensation, will be brought to life on screen, chronicling his extraordinary rise from poverty to becoming the top-selling artist of the 1980s. His fearless music and electrifying stage presence captivated audiences, despite stirring controversy and facing tragic consequences at a young age.

The biopic, helmed by Imtiaz Ali, boasts the musical genius of AR Rahman, who will compose the film’s enchanting soundtrack. Both Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra will showcase their vocal talents, lending their voices to some of the movie’s soul-stirring songs.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Imtiaz Ali shared his sentiments, describing the experience of crafting Chamkila’s story as unique and fulfilling. He expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Netflix, emphasizing the opportunity to share the legend’s tale with a global audience.

Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Netflix India’s Director of Original Films, highlighted the significance of ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ for the platform. She praised the talent involved in the project and emphasized Netflix’s commitment to bringing diverse stories to audiences worldwide.

Lead actor Diljit Dosanjh said that portraying the iconic figure, was the most challenging experience of his life. He praised his co-star Parineeti Chopra and the dedicated team behind the film, emphasizing the transformative experience of working with AR Rahman’s music. Parineeti Chopra is portraying the role of Amarjot, Chamkila’s wife and singing partner in the film.

The film is being produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Reliance Entertainment.
