Prime Video has greenlit a thrilling new drama series titled “El Gato” (working title), based on Richard Dominguez’s acclaimed comic book series “El Gato Negro.” The lead role will be portrayed by Diego Boneta, renowned for his captivating performances in “Luis Miguel: The Series” and “Father of the Bride.”
Set in a bilingual narrative, “El Gato” delves into the gripping story of Frank Guerrero, played by Boneta, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery after his father’s demise. Uncovering a startling revelation about his father’s clandestine past as the 1970s vigilante, “El Gato,” Frank becomes entangled in a web of conspiracy that threatens to unravel his entire existence.
The series, helmed by creator Eric Carrasco, promises a riveting blend of family drama, espionage, and masked heroism. Co-showrunners Turi Meyer and Alfredo Septién (“Stargirl,” “Smallville”) join Carrasco in bringing this electrifying vision to life, with production slated to commence in Mexico this spring.
Frank’s poignant journey unfolds against the backdrop of his fractured family’s quest for control over his father’s vast empire. As Frank grapples with grief and intrigue, he discovers that his inheritance, seemingly insignificant land on the border, conceals the secrets of his father’s heroic legacy. Now thrust into a perilous world of deception and danger, Frank must confront long-buried mysteries and thwart a modern-day terror plot to safeguard his survival.
Carrasco describes “El Gato” as a pulse-pounding pulp thriller that promises to captivate audiences with its intricate narrative and dynamic characters. Boneta echoes this sentiment, expressing his enthusiasm for portraying Frank and collaborating with an exceptional team to realize this epic saga.
The star-studded production boasts an ensemble of talent, including executive producers Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, and Carla Gonzalez Vargas, alongside co-executive producers Kai Dolbashian, Marilu G. Carranza, and Joel Novoa-Schneider.
