Sky and Peacock released the teaser trailer for their upcoming original series, “The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” on 22 February. Scheduled to premiere on 2nd May, the six-part limited drama is adapted from the international bestseller by Heather Morris, which narrates a harrowing tale of love and survival amidst the atrocities of the Holocaust.

The teaser trailer offers a glimpse into the heart-wrenching narrative, as an older Lali, portrayed by the legendary Harvey Keitel, recounts his experiences of Auschwitz to Heather Morris, played by Melanie Lynskey. Viewers are taken on a journey through Lali’s memories, witnessing his unlikely romance with Gita, portrayed by Anna Próchniak, amidst the horrors of the concentration camp.

The original score is crafted by the multi–Academy award-winning Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve, who have also composed the soundtrack for the series.

“The Tattooist of Auschwitz” follows the story of Lali, a Slovakian Jew, who finds himself deported to Auschwitz in 1942. Tasked with tattooing identification numbers onto fellow prisoners’ arms, Lali’s life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Gita, leading to a love that defies all odds.

Under the constant threat of Nazi oppression, Lali and Gita embark on a courageous journey to keep each other alive, despite the menacing presence of SS officer Stefan Baretzki, portrayed by Jonas Nay. Decades later, an older Lali, now in his 80s, finds the courage to share his story with aspiring writer Heather Morris, confronting the haunting memories of his past.

Directed by Tali Shalom-Ezer and executive produced by Claire Mundell of Synchronicity Films, “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” is a collaborative effort between Sky Studios and All3Media International. Jacquelin Perske leads the writing team, with episode writers Evan Placey and Gabbie Asher contributing to the series’ compelling narrative.

International distribution of the series is handled jointly by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution and All3Media International, with Stan securing the rights for Australia and SkyShowtime for various European territories.

The series will be airing on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK and Ireland, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, while also being available on Peacock in the US and Stan in Australia.
