Mehdi Hasan, former MSNBC host, announced that he is going independent, and launched a new company called Zeteo. The new venture will have videos, podcasts and text journalism. In the introductory video, Hasan said that Zeteo “will bring you hard-hitting interviews and unsparing analysis that you won’t find elsewhere.”

Hasan is collaborating with Substack for the launch, offering subscription rates of $8 per month or $72 per year. Additionally, there’s a “founding member” option priced at $500 per year, which includes a signed copy of his book and exclusive Zoom calls with the host.

In the introductory video, Hasan said: “I’ve been busy a la Nick Fury assembling an Avengers-style team of contributors, the kind of big names from media activism and Hollywood that will blow your mind.”

Last month, Hasan called quits on his time at MSNBC after the media organisation cancelled his Sunday evening program The Mehdi Hasan Show. As part of a wider overhaul of MSNBC’s weekend lineup, Hasan’s show was axed, prompting disappointment among viewers. This was particularly notable as Hasan, a prominent Muslim host, had garnered attention amidst the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza.

“Will you join me and help build Zeteo from the ground up by becoming a subscriber, a paid subscriber?” he asks in the video. “Sign up below, and let’s change the news together. Because it’s time for a new media organization that isn’t afraid.”
