Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards ceremony was held in Tokyo over the weekend and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 emerged victorious by taking the top-prize anime of the year. Additionally, it won in 10 other categories, including Best Director, Best Character Design, Best Action and Best Cinematography.
Mokoto Shinkai’s anime blockbuster Suzume won the best film award, while Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc won several key categories, including best animation and best fantasy.
The eighth edition of the yearly awards ceremony celebrated outstanding accomplishments in Japanese animation across diverse categories, determining the winners through a worldwide popular vote. The event was broadcast live on Crunchyroll, the anime-focused streaming platform under Sony Group’s ownership, and later made available for viewing on the brand’s YouTube and Twitch channels. Japanese entertainer Jon Kabira and voice actress Sally Amaki hosted the award ceremony.
As per Crunchyroll, 34 million votes were cast for 2024’s winners by fans around the globe.
“Anime fans from around the world have spoken and collectively, they cast more votes than in the history of the Anime Awards to crown the 2024 winners,” said Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll.
“Anime is a powerful force, driving pop culture and connecting global fans and it is a privilege to celebrate and honor this dynamic artform,” he added.
