Excitement is brewing among fans of the “Game of Thrones” universe as the highly anticipated second season of “House of the Dragon” is slated to debut on HBO in June.
On Monday, Warner Bros. Discovery streaming and gaming chief J.B. Perrette disclosed the launch month for the “Game of Thrones” spinoff during an interview at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media, and Telecom conference. While the exact premiere date for “House of the Dragon” Season 2 has not been revealed, this announcement provides the most substantial information regarding the release window to date.
HBO chief Casey Bloys had previously teased an “early summer” release in November, with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav hinting at a release “next quarter” during the company’s Q4 earnings call on 23 Feb.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones” book “Fire & Blood,” “House of the Dragon” delves into the history of the Targaryen dynasty in the fictional continent of Westeros. Set nearly 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” the series explores the Targaryens’ rise to power and their struggles to maintain control over the Seven Kingdoms.
The returning cast for “House of the Dragon” Season 2 includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham. Additionally, newcomers Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, and Simon Russell Beale join the ensemble cast.
Following the success of its 10-episode first season, which aired from 21st August to 23rd October, “House of the Dragon” was swiftly renewed for a second season. Filming for Season 2 commenced at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios on 11th April 2023, and remained unaffected by industry strikes due to completed scripts before production began.
As anticipation mounts, fans eagerly await the return to the world of Westeros as “House of the Dragon” promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in the epic saga of power, intrigue, and dragons.
