In the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver brought up Kate Middleton and her Photoshop debacle that has left the whole world seeking the truth. He also got a cameo from Jersey Shore’s Snooki.
Starting the show, Oliver took a dig at the England drama over Kensington Palace’s release of a statement in which the Princess of Wales admitted to editing a photo of her and her three kids.
“A certain someone’s Adobe free trial expired in a pretty public manner,” Oliver quipped.
Following the release of a photograph featuring Middleton and her three children to celebrate Mother’s Day in the UK, the image was subsequently retracted from news agencies upon the discovery of manipulation.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” read the apology from Middleton. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
The focal point of Oliver’s evening narrative revolved around student loans and the significant challenges faced by many Americans in settling them, largely due to their exorbitant interest rates leading to inflated monthly payments. The HBO presenter showcased a woman who shells out over $700 monthly for a student loan, with the bulk of the payment allocated to interest rather than reducing the principal amount.
“That is ridiculous. That $650 could clearly be much better spent,” Oliver said.
Oliver pointed out that the funds directed solely to interest on the loan could cover the purchase of two cameo videos from Rudy Giuliani, who charges $325 per request.
“I would prove that to you by buying one, but I don’t want to give that man any money,” he said.
However, Oliver found another celebrity and booked Snooki to make a Cameo video who charges $300 per request.
“Hey Brittany, what’s up momma. It’s your girl Snooki and I cannot believe this video costs half as much as your student loan interest. That’s f***ed up,” Snooki said in the video.
Oliver thanked Snooki and mimicked her sign-off by blowing a kiss to the camera.
