The search for the Commonwealth Games 2026 host continued as Singapore has ruled out bidding for quadrennial international multi-sport event. Earlier, the Australian state of Victoria withdrew its name, citing rising costs as reason.

After them, Malaysia were not only offered a chance to host the event but also £100m to help cover the costs. However, they turned down the offer last month.

In a statement, Commonwealth Games Singapore and Sport Singapore said they had “studied the feasibility” and “decided not to make any bid”.

Singapore has never hosted the Games.

With a mere two years remaining until the multi-sport event and no confirmed host, uncertainties persist regarding the event’s future, typically scheduled every four years.

Last month, a spokesperson for the Commonwealth Games Federation informed BBC Sport that the organization was engaged in “advanced, confidential discussions” with potential hosts to ensure a resolution for the 2026 Games. They also mentioned that £100 million in “financial and strategic support” had been allocated for potential hosts as part of the settlement following Victoria’s withdrawal.

Durban, originally slated to host the 2022 games, lost its hosting rights in 2017 due to financial issues and failing to meet crucial deadlines. Birmingham stepped in as the replacement host.

The host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games remains unconfirmed following the withdrawal of support for a bid by the government of Alberta, Canada.
