American actor-director Jesse Lee Soffer is returning to the Dick Wolf universe, but this time not as Jay Halstead, according to Variety report. Soffer has secured a series regular role in Season 4 of “FBI: International,” airing on CBS. Previously, he portrayed Detective Halstead on NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” for ten seasons, leaving the show in 2022.
In “FBI: International,” Soffer will replace Luke Kleintank, who played Scott Forrester since the beginning of the show and left last year near the end of Season 3. The cast also includes Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto, Christina Wolfe, and Eva-Jane Willis.
Viewers were surprised with the news as it was expected that Halstead might return to “Chicago P.D.” Soffer had kept that possibility open when his character left Intelligence to join the Army in Bolivia. “I still love Halstead. Halstead’s always going to be in my blood. That’s never going to change,” Variety quoted Soffer from one of his interviews. However, Soffer returning to “Chicago P.D.” seems less likely.
“FBI: International” is the ninth show in the Wolf/Universal universe. The “Law & Order” flagship series led to spinoffs “Special Victims Unit” and “Organized Crime,” which then led to the “One Chicago” world with “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” and “Chicago Med.” In 2018, “FBI” debuted on CBS, featuring a crossover with “Chicago P.D.,” and it spawned the spinoffs “Most Wanted” and “International.”
The series is produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with CBS Studios. The show’s executive producers include Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Michael Katleman, Ernesto Alcalde, and Peter Jankowski. Olmstead will serve as the series’ showrunner.
