Rudy Giuliani, the former personal attorney to Donald Trump, has been disbarred in New York after a state appeals court ruled that he repeatedly made false claims about the 2020 election results. In 2021, Giuliani’s New York law license was suspended for making false statements regarding the election.

The court gave an immediately effective decision, stated that Giuliani has been “disbarred from the practice of law, effective immediately, and until the further order of this Court, and his name stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York.”

The ruling emphasized the gravity of Giuliani’s actions, stating, “The seriousness of respondent’s misconduct cannot be overstated.” Giuliani “flagrantly misused” his position and “baselessly attacked and undermined the integrity of this country’s electoral process.”

The court further noted, “In so doing, respondent not only deliberately violated some of the most fundamental tenets of the legal profession, but he also actively contributed to the national strife that has followed the 2020 Presidential election, for which he is entirely unrepentant.”

Giuliani has been ordered to “desist and refrain” from practicing law in any capacity, appearing as an attorney before any court or judge, offering legal advice, or “holding himself out in any way as an attorney and counselor-in-law.”

One of the court’s findings revealed that Giuliani “falsely and dishonestly asserted to the public that people were brought from Camden, New Jersey, to vote illegally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the 2020 presidential election.” These claims were made to support Giuliani’s narrative of widespread voter fraud, alleging the 2020 election was stolen from his client, Donald Trump.

In response, Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, announced that Giuliani plans to appeal the “objectively flawed” decision and called on the legal community to oppose what he described as a “politically and ideologically corrupted” ruling.
