Prime Video has decided not to renew “Outer Range” for a third season, reported The Hollywood Reporter. The series, known for its unique blend of Western and sci-fi elements, has been cancelled just under two months after the premiere of its second season.
The series was led by Josh Brolin as a Wyoming rancher who discovers a mysterious black void on his property while battling to keep his land from a rival family. The cast also includes Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie, and Will Patton.
The show first premiered on Prime Video in April 2022, with a second season greenlit in October 2022. During the same period, Charles Murray replaced Zev Borow as showrunner.
Although “Outer Range” did not reach the popularity of Prime Video’s top series like “Fallout” and “Reacher,” it performed decently. The first season appeared in Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series for five weeks, and the second season maintained a spot on the chart for three weeks as of June 2, the latest available data.
The series was produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Plan B Entertainment. Season two saw executive production from Charles Murray, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Ernest McNealey of Plan B, along with Brolin, Tony Krantz, Heather Rae, and Jon Paré.
