Starz is making a return to the Spartacus universe with the new series, House of Ashur, according to Variety exclusive report. This series will explore an intriguing alternate timeline where Ashur, played by Nick Tarabay survives Mount Vesuvius at the end of Spartacus: Vengeance. Instead of dying, Ashur is rewarded with Batiatus’s Ludus in exchange for aiding in the defeat of Spartacus and ending the slave rebellion, as per the report.
The series premiere will feature a guest appearance by Lucy Lawless, in her iconic role as Lucretia. Lawless’s character will play a crucial role in establishing the “what if” scenario of this alternate timeline, “elevating” the narrative in her signature style.
Alongside Tarabay, House of Ashur will star Graham McTavish, Tenika Davis, Jamaica Vaughan, Ivana Baquero, Jordi Webber, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, and Leigh Gill. Steven S. DeKnight, the creator, writer, and executive producer of the original Spartacus series, returns as showrunner and executive producer for this new installment. Starz describes House of Ashur as a “history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit.”
Recently, Lawless made her directorial debut with the documentary Never Look Away, which premiered at Sundance 2024 as an official selection in the World Cinema Documentary Competition and was also a SXSW 2024 official selection. She currently stars in the fourth season of the Australian series My Life is Murder. Lawless also appeared in the Starz comedy horror Ash vs Evil Dead, reuniting with her Xena co-star Bruce Campbell and producer Sam Raimi, who she also collaborated with on Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Additionally, she starred in the animated feature film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Her extensive TV credits include roles in Flight of the Conchords, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Code, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The L Word, CSI: Miami, and The X-Files. Lucy Lawless is represented by IAG.
