It’s good news for Disney fans, as their beloved “Frozen” franchise is set to return with a third installment, “Frozen 3,” slated for release in 2027. This new chapter promises to tie up some of the loose ends left from the previous films, offering answers to the lingering questions fans have been pondering.
During the recent Disney Animation presentation, chief creative officer Jennifer Lee, who co-wrote and co-directed both “Frozen” and “Frozen II” with Chris Buck, closed out the event by unveiling stunning visual development art from the upcoming movie. Created by Britney Lee, the artwork showcases Elsa on a majestic white horse and Anna riding a sturdy brown stag.
The “Frozen” phenomenon began in 2013 with the release of the first film, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, “The Snow Queen.” The movie, set in the fictional kingdom of Arendelle, quickly became a cultural sensation. It grossed $1.28 billion worldwide, becoming the fifth highest-grossing film of all time upon its release, and now ranks at No. 22. The film’s soundtrack, featuring unforgettable songs like “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and the Oscar-winning “Let It Go,” composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, sold over 4.1 million copies by mid-2016 and garnered more than 51 million streams.
“Frozen II,” released in 2019, expanded on the world of Arendelle, introducing new magical elements and creatures. It outdid its predecessor at the box office, earning $1.45 billion globally, making it the 14th highest-grossing movie worldwide, having once peaked at No. 10.
Beyond the films, the “Frozen” universe has flourished with TV specials, short films, a Broadway musical, an ice-skating show, and a myriad of other ventures. As anticipation builds for “Frozen 3,” fans can expect another enchanting journey with Anna, Elsa, and the rest of the Arendelle crew.
