Gi-hun is stepping back into the deadly arena as Netflix releases the first teaser for the eagerly awaited second season of Squid Game.
Lee Jung-jae returns as Seong Gi-hun, the lone victor of the brutal games from Season 1, in a gripping 30-second teaser. The clip features a sequence of anonymous players dressed in the familiar green tracksuits, with the last one revealing Gi-hun’s iconic #456.
The teaser, bathed in dramatic lighting, highlights the increasing numbers on the players’ backs, culminating with Gi-hun’s patch. Season 2 picks up three years after Gi-hun’s victory in the original Squid Game, as he abandons plans to move to the United States and returns with a renewed sense of purpose. Once again, he plunges into the treacherous survival game, this time with a new set of participants vying for the massive 45.6 billion won prize.
Earlier, Deadline reported that this season will showcase a transformed Gi-hun, driven by a thirst for revenge as he enters the game with a more intense and focused mindset as mentioned by the creator Hwang Dong-hyuk.
Squid Game made history with its first season, as Hwang Dong-hyuk became the first Asian to win an Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series. Lee Jung-jae also broke barriers, becoming the first Asian man to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, and the first to do so for a non-English show.
The series itself became Netflix’s most-watched show of all time, amassing a staggering 1.65 billion views within the first 28 days of its 2021 debut.
The second season is scheduled for 26th December premiere on Netflix. It has been already announced that the third and final season of Squid Game is set to arrive in 2025.
