Boss Team Games is developing two new video games based on the iconic 1978 horror film Halloween, as revealed exclusively by IGN. While more details are yet to be disclosed, it’s confirmed that one of the games will be built using Unreal Engine 5, and both projects are being developed in close collaboration with the franchise’s producers. What’s more, legendary director John Carpenter will be “intimately involved” in the creation of one of the games.
“As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly,” said Carpenter, highlighting his deep involvement in the project.
According to the official announcement, these games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” The projects are being developed in partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, with the Unreal Engine 5 game still in its early stages.
Despite Halloween being a 45-year-old franchise, there have been few video game adaptations. The closest was the 1983 Atari 2600 game Halloween, where players assumed the role of a babysitter—likely Laurie Strode—trying to escape Michael Myers. Michael Myers has also appeared as a villain in Dead by Daylight, the popular multiplayer horror game from Behaviour Interactive.
Boss Team Games, who previously worked on Evil Dead: The Game, is returning to the horror genre with these new Halloween projects. In their review, IGN said, “Evil Dead: The Game is an awesome asymmetric multiplayer game that, like its source material, is far better than it has any right to be given its frustrating lack of polish and being somewhat light on maps and modes.”
Steve Harris, CEO of Boss Team Games, expressed the team’s enthusiasm: “Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror, and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans. Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”
Currently, no release dates have been announced for either of the Halloween games.
