The highly anticipated science fiction epic Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, has finally made its global streaming debut on Prime Video. Following an extraordinary run at the box office, where it shattered records and became the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024, the film is now available in its original Telugu language, with dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, and English subtitles.
Kalki 2898 AD has been widely praised for its innovative fusion of science fiction and Indian mythology, drawing acclaim from both critics and audiences. While the film features a star-studded cast, including Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani, it is the legendary Amitabh Bachchan who has garnered particular attention for his powerful portrayal of the immortal character Ashwatthama.
As the film premieres on Prime Video, director Nag Ashwin shared his insights on working with the veteran actor. “I think Bachchan sir was, is a legend and he was extremely gracious in how much patience he had with us as a team and as a very young team actually trying to pull off something that usually somebody from his generation might not be very comfortable, with so much CG, so much green screen, but he was extremely gracious and patient with the whole process, he would come, sit and wait while we figured out. Some stuff took longer than we planned and his experience, especially in the action parts, I think shows on screen, which is why people enjoy it so much,” Ashwin remarked.
The film marks the inaugural entry in the Kalki Cinematic Universe. Set in the year 2898 AD, the film explores a dystopian world where Kashi, the first city of the world, lies barren under the oppressive rule of Supreme Yaskin. The story follows SUM80, a beacon of hope, who emerges as the bearer of Lord Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu. The plot thickens as SUM80, with the help of Bhairava, Ashwatthama, and a group of rebels from Shambhala, battles to thwart Yaskin’s sinister Project K.
Produced by Priyanka Dutt, C. Aswani Dutt, and Swapna Dutt under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies, Kalki 2898 AD is now available for streaming on Prime Video. The film continues to captivate viewers with its ambitious storytelling and visual grandeur, solidifying its place as a landmark in Indian cinema.
