As the official accessibility partner for the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), Svayam is set to play a pivotal role in ensuring that the Indian Para Contingent enjoys an accessible and inclusive experience during the Paris Paralympics 2024. This partnership underscores Svayam’s ongoing commitment to promoting accessibility in sports, continuing a collaboration that has spanned 4-5 years.
The Paris Paralympics 2024, scheduled from 28th August to 8th September, will feature over 4,000 athletes from around the world competing in 22 different sports. In preparation for this global event, Svayam, a not-for-profit initiative of the Sminu Jindal Charitable Trust, is undertaking a series of initiatives to support Indian para-athletes. These efforts include providing accessible transportation and conducting thorough access audits of selected hotels and facilities in New Delhi where the athletes will be accommodated.
Svayam has also donated a fully modified accessible vehicle to the PCI, further enhancing mobility for para-athletes. Reflecting on this continued partnership, Ms. Sminu Jindal, Founder-Chairperson of Svayam, expressed her excitement: “Being the Accessibility Partner is both an honor and a responsibility. Our partnership continues to break down barriers and promote dignity and independence for people with reduced mobility. This year too Svayam will ensure that the dignity of para-players hailing from across the country is not compromised. We are dedicated to creating an equitable environment where every player can focus on their performance without worrying about accessibility. We look forward to more such opportunities in the future.”
Besides this, Svayam has supported PCI in various major events, including the Tokyo Paralympics 2021, the 5th Indian Open Para-Athletic International Championship & Regional Sports Training in Bangalore in 2023, the first Khelo India Para Games 2023 under the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the Disability Cricket Council of India (DCCI) since 2020.
