Get ready for an adrenaline-fueled ride as “The Shadow Strays,” the latest action-packed drama from acclaimed director Timo Tjahjanto, hits screens on 17th October on Netflix. Known for his gripping films “The Night Comes for Us” and “The Big 4,” Tjahjanto returns with another high-octane thriller that promises to captivate audiences.
The film’s newly released teaser offers a tantalizing glimpse into the intense and suspenseful sequences that await viewers. “The Shadow Strays” follows the journey of Codename 13, a young assassin who is suspended after a mission goes awry. During her time off, she forms a bond with Monji, a boy who recently lost his mother to a crime syndicate. When Monji suddenly vanishes, 13 embarks on a relentless quest to find him, even if it means defying her mentor and the shadowy organization she serves, known as “The Shadows.”
Set against the backdrop of a brutal underworld, “The Shadow Strays” delves into themes of redemption, loyalty, and the cost of survival. Audiences can expect Tjahjanto’s trademark style, with expertly choreographed action sequences that will keep them on the edge of their seats. Adding to the anticipation, “The Shadow Strays” has been selected to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section this September. This marks Tjahjanto’s second appearance in the coveted section, following his 2016 film “Headshot”.
The film boasts a talented cast, featuring a mix of emerging and established stars. Aurora Ribero shines as 13, delivering a performance that combines intense action with emotional depth. Hana Malasan stars as Umbra, 13’s strict mentor and veteran assassin, with the duo’s fight scenes being a particular highlight. Ali Fikry plays Monji, the young boy at the heart of 13’s journey, while Adipati Dolken steps into the role of Prasetyo, a corrupt cop, and Andri Mashadi portrays Ariel, the sadistic crime boss.
