ABC’s “Will Trent” is set to welcome a new face in its third season, with Gina Rodriguez, known for “Jane the Virgin” stepping into the role of a dynamic Assistant District Attorney.

The show, inspired by Karin Slaughter’s bestselling “Will Trent” book series, centers around Special Agent Will Trent (portrayed by Ramón Rodriguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Abandoned at birth and raised in Atlanta’s strained foster care system, Will has channeled his challenging past into a unique perspective that aids him in solving crimes, boasting the highest clearance rate in the GBI.

Rodriguez will play Marion Alba, a charismatic and confident ADA who is new to Atlanta. Her first interaction with Will doesn’t go as planned, but the two soon find themselves working together to solve a crime rooted in the dangerous world of Atlanta’s gangs. With Will’s romantic relationship with Angie (Erika Christensen) hitting some rough patches in Season 2, speculation is already brewing about whether Marion’s arrival could stir up a love triangle. Could Marion be the catalyst that brings Will and Angie closer, or might she drive them apart for good? Only time will tell.

The series also stars Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, and Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood.

Rodriguez’s casting in “Will Trent” marks a continued collaboration with ABC/Disney. She recently co-hosted the game show Lucky 13 alongside Shaquille O’Neal, and previously starred in and executive produced ABC’s “Not Dead Yet” and Disney+’s “Diary of a Future President”.

“Will Trent” is executive produced by Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Howard Deutch, Ellen Marie Blum, and Ramón Rodriguez. Heldens and Thomsen also serve as co-showrunners for the series, which is produced by 20th Television.
