Paramount+ is assembling a powerful cast for its upcoming limited series “JonBenét Ramsey” (working title), with Shea Whigham and Will Patton taking on significant roles alongside Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen. The series, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, delves into the haunting unsolved murder of the six-year-old beauty queen. According to Deadline exclusive report, the show will focus on the Ramsey family’s life before and after the horrific event, highlighting the overwhelming media attention and public scrutiny that followed. At its core, it’s the story of Patsy (McCarthy) and John Ramsey (Owen), a couple whose carefully curated image of a perfect life was shattered on Christmas night, 1996. The series will examine their enduring partnership as they face unimaginable grief. Whigham will portray District Attorney Alex Hunter, who had ties to the Ramsey family, while Patton is set to play Lou Smith, a seasoned law enforcement officer with an impressive record of solving over 150 homicide cases in Boulder Springs. Production for the series is currently underway in Calgary, with Richard LaGravenese serving as showrunner and executive producer. Director Anne Sewitsky will helm four of the eight episodes, including the series opener, while also executive producing. The writing team includes Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach, who developed the project alongside LaGravenese. All three serve as executive producers, alongside David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Melissa McCarthy, and Sewitsky. For Whigham, this marks another collaboration with Paramount, following his appearances in “Waco” and its sequel, as well as “Lawmen: Bass Reeves”. He was recently seen in HBO’s “Perry Mason” and Starz’s “Gaslit,” and will soon reprise his role as Briggs in “Mission Impossible 8”. Will Patton, known for his roles in “Yellowstone” and Prime Video’s “Outer Range,” is currently appearing in “Horizon: An American Saga” alongside Kevin Costner. With its compelling cast and production team, “JonBenét Ramsey” promises to revisit one of America’s most infamous cases from a fresh and emotionally charged perspective.
