Prime Video has secured the international distribution rights (excluding Germany) for the upcoming sci-fi thriller “The Assessment,” in a high seven-figure deal, as per Deadline exclusive report. The film starring Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this Sunday.

Set in a near-future world where parenthood is tightly controlled, “The Assessment” follows a couple undergoing a seven-day evaluation to determine if they can have a child. The story delves into a psychological struggle, challenging the couple’s beliefs about society and humanity.

The film also features an impressive supporting cast, including Minnie Driver, Indira Varma, Nicholas Pinnock, Charlotte Ritchie, and Leah Harvey.

This marks the feature debut for director Fleur Fortuné, who is known for her work on music videos for artists like Skrillex and Travis Scott, as well as ads for major brands such as Chanel and Nike.

The international deal for “The Assessment” was brokered by WME Independent, while UTA Independent Film Group is handling domestic sales. Capelight will distribute the film in Germany.

Producers Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen, who have worked on Living and Carol, shared their excitement, said, “We’ve developed this project for over eight years, and for much of that time with the immensely talented Fleur Fortuné attached. We are equally excited to work with Prime Video on the film’s release internationally outside of the US and Germany.”

Chris Mansolillo, Director of Content Acquisition at Prime Video, echoed their enthusiasm, said, “We were instantly drawn to this futuristic thriller… Combining Fleur Fortuné’s refreshing take on the sci-fi genre and outstanding performances from Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Olsen, and Himesh Patel, audiences can expect a visually stunning and captivating psychological story.”
