The 2024 Emmy Awards became a platform for advocacy as several stars showcased their support for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict on Sunday night. Prominent figures including Nicola Coughlan, Dallas Goldtooth and Devery Jacobs, Brittani Nichols, and Caroline Joyner graced the red carpet wearing a distinctive pin. The pin featured a red background, an orange hand, and a black heart, symbolizing a call for a permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, as noted by the organization Artists4Ceasefire.

Coughlan, who has been vocal about her support for Palestine, previously stated on social media, “You might have seen me wear a red pin on the red carpet and press events during the last while and I thought it would be a good time to share some information about Artists for Ceasefire and what we stand for.”

Since the outbreak of the deadly conflict on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on Israel, numerous Hollywood figures have echoed calls for a ceasefire, even signing a letter addressed to President Joe Biden, organized by Artists4Ceasefire.

The evening was marked by pro-Palestinian protests outside the Los Angeles venue, which delayed the arrivals of some Emmy attendees. Demonstrators chanted and waved flags, with one sign reading, “No justifying the murder of children.” Similar protests had previously caused delays at the Oscars earlier this year.

The 2024 Emmy Awards, co-hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, took place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles.
