The wait is finally over for fans as the Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt is all set to hit Indian theatres on 2nd October, 2024. The action-packed film, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, has already made waves worldwide, premiering internationally (excluding India) back on 13th October, 2022. Now, Indian audiences will have their chance to experience the blockbuster that captivated millions.
Announcing the much-awaited release on its official Instagram page, the filmmakers wrote, “Two years on, The Legend of Maula Jatt is still unstoppable! Witness the epic saga on the big screen in India from 2nd October 2024.” The news sparked excitement among Indian fans, with one eagerly commenting, “India me bhut chalegi mai khud dekhonga,” predicting the film’s success in the country.
However, the journey to Indian theatres was not very easy as the film was originally slated to release in 2023 but its Indian debut faced significant delays as the distributors pulled out just before the release. In December 2023, an INOX representative told PTI, “We have been informed by the distributors that the release of the film has been postponed indefinitely.” Zee Studios, which holds the distribution rights, had encountered resistance from certain groups, further complicating its release.
Directed by Bilal Lashari, The Legend of Maula Jatt is a modern retelling of the iconic Punjabi folk hero, Maula Jatt, a fearless wrestler fighting against tyranny and oppression. Fawad Khan’s portrayal of the titular character has been lauded for its intensity, while Mahira Khan plays his love interest, Mukkho. The star-studded cast also includes Hamza Ali Abbasi as the menacing antagonist Noori Natt, with Humaima Malik and Faris Shafi in supporting roles.
A reboot of the 1979 cult classic, this new adaptation has smashed records, becoming the highest-grossing Pakistani film in history. Having crossed the Rs. 200 crore milestone, The Legend of Maula Jatt remains a cinematic triumph, and its Indian release is expected to further solidify its legacy.
