Dallas Jenkins, the creative mind behind the global hit series The Chosen, has officially launched 5&2 Studios, announcing a fresh lineup of projects at this weekend’s ChosenCon in Orlando, Florida. According to Variety exclusive report, Jenkins’ new venture aims to deliver Bible-inspired stories through “authentic storytelling and audience engagement.”
The event, which draws fans of The Chosen—a series about the life of Jesus—featured cast members and producers, offering a sneak peek into the studio’s next big projects. The Chosen itself, now in production for its final two seasons, continues to grow its influence since its 2017 launch as a crowdfunded short.
One of the most anticipated projects is Jenkins’ next flagship: a three-season series chronicling the life of Moses. Describing Moses as a “reluctant Tony Soprano,” Jenkins envisions the series as exploring Moses’ reluctant leadership in leading the Jewish people to freedom.
“There actually isn’t a story in the Bible, possibly even including Jesus, that has more pop culture, historical moments, phrases, and imagery than the story of Moses,” Jenkins explained. “It’s an epic story that can be told.”
The series will be divided into three parts: Moses’ rescue from Egypt, the Exodus and the parting of the Red Sea, and the final journey towards the Promised Land—though Moses himself never steps foot there. Each season will run between eight and ten episodes.
Before Moses’ tale hits the screen, The Chosen will wrap up with two more seasons. Season 6 will center on the Crucifixion, while Season 7 will focus on the Resurrection. Jenkins confirmed both will feature extended episodes with a global theatrical release.
Another exciting project from 5&2 Studios is The Chosen Adventures, an animated series set in the same universe as The Chosen. The animated show will follow Jesus’ interactions with children he meets in the wilderness, offering a lighter, more whimsical approach to the familiar story.
“We thought there’s something there, seeing Jesus through the eyes of kids,” said Jenkins. “We’re not going to expand on that in the mothership show. But what if we took time with that, in an animated show that was witty and fun and that adults could appreciate.”
In a surprising collaboration, Jenkins also announced The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls, a six-episode unscripted series where Jenkins himself will take part in wilderness survival challenges led by the famed adventurer.
“For me as a rugged indoorsman, I’m very scared about what I’m going to be subjected to,” Jenkins quipped, adding that it marks the start of multiple partnerships in the unscripted genre.
Beyond Moses, Jenkins is also eyeing other Bible stories for future productions. He’s developing a series on the Acts of the Apostles and a limited series about Joseph, which he plans to tell in just eight episodes.
“This is a story that can be told in eight episodes,” Jenkins said of “Joseph”. “We have writers that love The Chosen and want to have their own stamp on it, but also defer to the larger ‘Chosen’ story that we’re telling,” said Jenkins.
While Jenkins’ new projects expand the scope of 5&2 Studios, The Chosen will remain free to audiences worldwide. Jenkins reassured fans that even as he explores exclusive streaming partnerships, the heart of his mission remains making these stories accessible, particularly for those in developing countries.
“The mothership show will always be free, we promised that, and we’ll never change that,” said Jenkins. However, future projects may require payment, depending on the terms negotiated with streaming platforms. Jenkins emphasized the need for sustainable funding without burdening audiences.
Outside of 5&2 Studios, Jenkins is behind the upcoming feature film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, set to release on November 8. Starring Judy Greer and Pete Holmes, the film promises to bring a sharp, witty take on Barbara Robinson’s beloved holiday book.
