Freddie Prinze Jr. is officially returning to his role as Ray Bronson in the upcoming sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, according to exclusive report by Deadline. Prinze Jr., who starred in the original 1997 film and its 1998 follow-up, will return for the next chapter of the iconic horror franchise, which is slated to hit theaters on 18th July, 2025.
Earlier this year, Deadline reported that both Prinze Jr. and his co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt were in talks to return for the sequel. While Prinze Jr.’s role is confirmed, Hewitt, who played Julie James, remains in negotiations.
The newly announced cast for the film includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King. While plot details for the upcoming installment are being kept under wraps, the project promises to continue the suspense and thrills the franchise is known for.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is set to direct the sequel, with a script co-written by Sam Lansky and Robinson, based on a draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz, who produced the original films, is returning as producer for the new installment.
The original I Know What You Did Last Summer, loosely adapted from Lois Duncan’s novel, followed a group of friends who are stalked by a vengeful killer after a tragic accident. The film’s success led to a sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer in 1998, and a stand-alone third installment in 2006. A TV series adaptation was also released on Prime Video in 2021, but it only ran for one season.
Prinze Jr. is represented by Paradigm, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman.
