Indian-American actor Karan Soni, known for his roles in Deadpool & Wolverine and Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse, has been cast as the lead in Andrew Sandler’s upcoming thriller Fade to Black. The film marks Sandler’s narrative feature debut and is set to begin production in Los Angeles this October.

Soni will star alongside a powerhouse ensemble that includes Katerina Tannenbaum, Max Carver, Rafael Casal, Gavin Leatherwood, Joseph Lee, John Carroll Lynch, and Zosia Mamet.

According to the official plot description, Fade to Black follows Amit, portrayed by Soni, a struggling screenwriter who becomes entangled in the dark side of Hollywood’s entertainment industry. After an accidental death leads him to a shocking realization, Amit starts recreating the murders of his script’s fictional serial killer, hoping to gain the attention he needs to get his movie produced. The film promises a mix of dark comedy and a chilling examination of ambition, madness, and the harsh realities of breaking into show business.

Sandler, known for his music video work with high-profile artists like Blink-182, Justin Bieber, Machine Gun Kelly, and Ariana Grande, expressed his excitement about working with such a dynamic cast. “Talent has responded to the material in a really exciting way, and I am beyond thrilled to collaborate with such an extraordinary group of artists for my first narrative feature film,” said Sandler. “Each member of the ensemble is bringing their own unique flair to this world, which will only continue to elevate the incredible script Brandon has crafted. I can’t wait to get to work,” he added.

The screenplay for Fade to Black was written by Brandon Cohen and discovered through The Black List, an industry hub for discovering unproduced screenplays. Danny Hamouie and Brent Craft, also the founder of the script, are onboard as producers alongside Paul Scanlan and David Baxter under the Legion M banner. Craft’s production company, Craftsmen Media Co., is also involved, with Andrew Carlberg producing. Randall Einhorn, Danny Hamouie, and Jeff Annison will serve as executive producers.

Soni’s previous work include A Nice Indian Boy, Safety Not Guaranteed, and Strange World, as well as TV series like Abbott Elementary and Miracle Workers.
