MGM+ has officially ordered a new reimagined Robin Hood drama, with production set to begin in early 2025. The upcoming series will be helmed by showrunner John Glenn and directed by Jonathan English, both of whom will also serve as executive producers. The series will be produced by Lionsgate Television, with Todd Liebermann from Hidden Pictures also joining as executive producer.

Production is slated to start at PFI Studios in Serbia, with the show expected to premiere on MGM+ later in the year. Set in the aftermath of the Norman invasion of England, the series will explore a love story between Robin Hood, portrayed as a Saxon forester’s son, and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord. As Robin rises to lead a band of rebel outlaws, Marian will infiltrate the court to fight royal corruption and seek justice.

Describing the show, the producers said, “It is a smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian to the beloved story.”

The series will be available to MGM+ viewers in multiple regions, including the UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, and several others.

“John and Jonathan bring an epic scale and a deeply resonant narrative to this fresh take of Robin Hood. We’re excited to partner with MGM+ and Todd to bring the legendary story of Robin Hood to a modern audience,” said Jocelyn Sabo, Lionsgate’s senior VP of scripted television development.

The creative team is represented by CAA and Entertainment 360, with English and Hidden Pictures also repped by CAA.
